KOLLAM: Minister for Ports M.Vijayakumar has said that Kollam Port will be developed into a major port in future. Inaugurating the loading activities in the first ship berthed at the Kollam Port after its inauguration around two years ago, the Minister said that the Government had appointed the US-based multi-national company Deloitte as consultants for developing Kollam Port as a major one. The project will be implemented after inviting global tenders. Speaking at the function, Fisheries Minister S.Sarma said that the dredging works in the port would start on June 30. It will be completed within 3 to 4 months. In the first phase the dredging work will be done up to 7 metres and later it will be increased up to 10 metres. The tender for the dredging work has been accepted by the Government which will be done at a cost of Rs 2 crore.
